Recognizing and Treating Mental Illness in Kids

We all have moments when we feel like we just can’t get a connection. We feel alone, despite the fact that there are 7 billion people in the world. But Dr. Diana Raab says that it’s important to recognize the difference between loneliness and solitude, because while loneliness cripples us, solitude can offer us strength. Dr. Raab is a research psychologist who helps people find healing and empowerment through memoir writing. She’s also an award-winning author of 10 books.

This year is monumental for positive representation in pop culture. Black Panther was the first Marvel film in which a black actor portrayed the hero. Also, actress Jodie Whittaker will be the first female Doctor Who in a series that started is 1963 and has spanned 26 seasons. These two choices have not only caught the eyes of worldwide audiences, but also the eyes of pop culture researchers. Karen Dill-Shackleford, Ph.D., is a social psychologist who studies the relationship between what we watch on our screens and our everyday lives.

The Utah Solutions Summit started five years ago with a focus on finding solutions for issues that matter to Utah. This year the summit is focusing on the opioid crisis. It, of course, is a problem that extends well past the state’s borders and will bring in experts from across the county to tackle the opioid epidemic.
