One of the clearest culprits scientists have discovered for memory loss diseases like Alzheimer’s is a certain kind of protein that clusters in a certain way in the patient’s brain. But now it looks like those protein clusters also stabilize memories. How can they both help and harm memory? Molecular biologist Kausik Si, an investigator at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, has been trying to understand how the brain creates and stores memories for more than a decade.
