In the United States nearly half a million babies are born preterm, have an illness, low birth weight, or other critical care scenarios and are admitted to the NICU. Many of these babies receive care and will recover with the help of specialists and eventually leave as healthy, thriving babies. However, for other babies, this can be a very traumatic and stressful time for parents –especially moms –who are confronted with life and death choices for their babies. Today, we have invited Dr. Susan Landers, a neonatologist –a pediatrician with extra training in the care of sick and premature babies. She joins us to give us a glimpse into what it is like to work in the NICU and how this time impacts Mothers. Welcome, Dr. Susan Landers!
