Kids In STEM (00:00) According to a recent study, the careers that will have the highest job security along with good pay in the next twenty years are STEM, meaning science, technology, engineering and math. But kids nowadays are becoming less and less interested in these fields. How can we instill an interest in these fields into our children? We’re joined by Jomo Mutegi, Science Education professor at IUPUI in Indiana, to give us some advice. Summer Running (17:00) With every day getting a few degrees warmer, we can all feel that summer is just around the corner. And what better way to get outside then to go on a run? But why does everyone love them if they are so darn predictable? Today we have “the guru of rom-com,” Billy Mernit, to discuss why we love the rom-com clichés that are so prevalent. Media Literacy (51:07) Have you ever heard the saying, “you can’t trust everything you read”? Where do you get your news from? A recent study found that about two-thirds of Americans get their news from social media. I know I’ve been guilty of that myself. It’s just so easy! But it can also be problematic, as we can’t always trust what we see online. In this social media driven world, where your aunt’s blog can reach the same audience as a credited news source, how can we find the truth? Here to discuss being media literate in this age of fake news is Julie Smith, professor, author and media literacy expert.  Taking Back the Grill (1:05:58) Why do some men claim ownership of the backyard grill? If we women want to grill a steak, there should be nothing stopping us. Kelly Cahoon is living proof that women can grill up some mouthwatering foods. Kelly Cahoon is a mom, professional chef, and griller extraordinaire. She joins us on the show to share how women can take back the grill.
