Some people are better at reading emotions than others, but multiple studies have found that adults frequently perceive Black children as being angry when the child isn’t actually angry. Sherick Hughes, a professor of education at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, studies how “racialized anger bias” is especially problematic for teachers and police officers. Hughes is also the Holton Distinguished Professor of Education. (Segment produced by Martha Harris)
