The world has a waste problem, and often the burden to solve it falls on consumers to recycle and reuse. But lots of packaging and other stuff just isn't reusable and heads to the landfill. This summer, two states—Maine and Oregon—passed laws requiring companies that create packaging to recycle or dispose properly of that packaging.
