Little Women

Louisa May Alcott’s beloved “Little Women”—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—come of age during the Civil War, but the war and its cause don’t figure prominently into the story. A new reimagining of the story places the Civil War and slavery front and center. In this telling, the March family is Black, recently emancipated, and building a life for themselves in a “freed people’s colony” in the South. The book is called, “So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix,” written by Bethany C. Morrow.
