Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was recently killed while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and the Taliban. Siddiqui left a legacy in conflict photography, known best for his coverage of the Rohingya refugee crisis and conflict in his home country in India. If this line of work is so inherently dangerous, why do photojournalists do it? Lauren Walsh, professor of journalism and visual culture at The New School and New York University, is the author of Conversations on Conflict Photography and the forthcoming Through the Lens: The Pandemic and Black Lives Matter (Routledge, 2022).
