It’s been a week since Haiti’s president Jovenel Moise was assassinated. As a state funeral is being planned for the murdered leader, other politicians in Haiti are battling over who should lead the country. The investigation into who killed Moise and why now spans multiple countries and involves several individuals with ties to the US. What can the US and other countries do to help Haiti out of this crisis? Do the people of Haiti even want our help? Mamyrah Douge-Prosper is currently in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She’s a professor of global studies at the University of California-Irvine, and her expertise is in Haitian social movements. (AP Photo/Joseph Odelyn)
