After graduating from BYU with a bachelor’s and master’s in journalism, she worked at the Deseret News and the New Era Magazine before starting her own publishing company 20 years ago. Earlier this year, Jeanette was honored in New York as one of the nation’s Top Women in Media, along with Martha Stewart. Jeanette has been named Business Leader of the Year by Utah Valley University and the Small Business of the Year by the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce. Jeanette is a regular presenter at the Commission on the Status of Women at the United nations. She joins us to discuss how to turn your passion into a business. How to Be a Cool Mom (50:59) If you have a daughter, it’s easy to look at her and see a best friend, someone you can confide in, rely on, and have fun with. While mothers and daughters have a special connection and should enjoy life together, it’s important to remember that you’re still her mother and not her peer. Adena Bank Lees says that it’s cool to be your daughter’s mother, and even though she may want you to be her best friend, it’s not the best thing for her. Adena Bank Lees is a licensed social worker, author, and international speaker. Overcoming Challenges (1:09:25) When Carol Decker was pregnant with her second daughter, she became ill with sepsis that would eventually leave her blind and a triple amputee. In the time since, Carol has become a motivational speaker, traveling and speaking to universities, churches, and hospitals, about the power of persistence and the fact that attitude really is everything. She joins us to discuss how she overcame her challenges, and how we can too.
