Pumpkin Carving Maniacs (0:00:00) Pumpkin carving is a favorite tradition of people all across the country this time of year. It’s so fun to see what people will do with their pumpkins. The most popular thing to carve is the classic jack-o'-lantern face. But some people will get really creative. Today, we’re excited to talk with some amazing pumpkin carving artists to give us some inspiration and tips this holiday season. Joining us today is Marc Evan and Chris Soria, founders of Maniac Pumpkin Carvers. Taking Care of Yourself During Divorce (0:35:57) Divorces are draining—emotionally, financially, and physically. There’s always more paperwork to go over, the house needs cleaning, the kids need caroling, and as the parent going through the divorce, you need to take care of yourself. However, it’s easy to lose sight of taking care of yourself in the mountain of to-dos that accompany a divorce. And while yours kid, your ex, and your family all play a central role in your life during the divorce process, it’s time to start making yourself a priority as well. Here today to discuss with us why it’s imperative that you take care of yourself during the divorce process and ways in which to begin doing so, is CEO and founder of the online divorce course and membership Afterglow: The Light at the Other Side of Divorce, Dr. Elizabeth Cohen. What’s Going on with Unemployment? (0:52:47) We’ve experienced unprecedented employment rates this year due to, well, obvious reasons. We started off strong with a 3.5 percent unemployment rate, but then the pandemic hit and we skyrocketed to 14.7%.  About 20 million jobs were lost earlier this year. And while we have been recovering ever since then, things still aren’t where they were before COVID-19.We wanted to get an update on where we are now, where things are going, and if there is any hope on the horizon. Here to talk us through it is labor economics expert Michael Ransom. Staying Organized (1:14:16) Everyone always plans and tries to stay organized, but life can be chaotic and can upset our organization plans. However, allowing yourself to become unorganized is like rolling a snowball down a hill. The longer you let it get out of control, the harder it will be to stop. That's why maintaining an organized lifestyle is so important. We’ve invited Rachel Rosenthal, an organizing expert, onto the show today to help us understand how we can maintain an organized mindset. The Death of the Laugh Track (1:28:25) Once upon a time, all of our favorite shows used canned laughter—Seinfeld, Friends, Fraiser etc. We all got so used to it that certain tracks were familiar and even predictable. But do you ever wonder what effect it actually had on how we viewed sitcoms? And why don’t we hear it now? Here to share the history, evolution and effects of the laugh track is three-time New York Times bestselling author and pop culture expert, Jennifer Keishin Armstrong.
