Herds of wild horses that roam western public lands are constantly at the center of debate. Ranchers don’t like the horses competing with their grazing livestock. And animal rights activists don’t like the way federal agencies treat the horses while managing herd population. But conservationists, like Jim Catlin, say the land itself and smaller animals deserve more attention in this debate. Catlin is the founder of the Wild Utah Project.
