Guest: Garry Porter, manager of the all-volunteer Mount Everest Biogas Program The peak season for climbers attempting to summit Everest is weeks away, so we turn our attention now to a growing problem on the famous mountain-poop. Some 14 tons of it are carried down the mountain from Everest Base Camp on the backs of local porters. They haul it in blue barrels and dump it into open pits at high-altitude village called, Gorak Shep. It stinks. It's contaminating the village's drink water. And until now there's been no progress on a solution to Everest's poop problem. The Mount Everest Biogas Program aims to convert all that human waste into fuel.
