A recent study done by the World Health Organization found that nearly one in three women have experienced some form of physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime. Of those abused, 25 percent report having been abused by an intimate partner before the age of 20. This study doesn’t account for the rise in domestic abuse that occurred during the early lockdowns of the pandemic. Domestic violence can cause serious mental and emotional problems that plague victims for years after the violence stops. Here to help us out is Dr. Christy Kane, a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience.
