Imodium: The New Hydrocodone?Jul 25, 201712mGuest: Heather Miller, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Texas A&M There’s a drug—likely in your medicine cabinet—a potentially fatal opioid that some addicts are turning to. It’s not one of the usual suspects - oxycodone or hydrocodone. It’s actually the active ingredient in Imodium – you know the anti-diarrhea medication? Imodium and generic versions of it contain “loperamide” (low-PEAR-uh-mide). While the number of people overdosing on loperamide is still small, that figure is increasing according to new research published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association.

A joint expedition from Yale and Belgium’s Royal Museums of Art and History uncovered some of the largest and oldest hieroglyphs ever found, dating back over 5,000 years. Egyptologist John Coleman Darnell, a professor in Yale’s Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations led the expedition.

A study of sixth, seventh and eighth graders showed disadvantaged youngsters who started off believing the world is fair and everyone has the same shot at success in life ended up falling farther into things like fighting, cheating and stealing as reality set in. It’s as if their optimistic view of the world turned into a serious liability when they learned the truth.
