Hundreds of sports teams have been cut at large and small colleges all across the country–though not men’s basketball or football. Such cuts have been a cost-saving trend in higher education for some time, but the pandemic really accelerated it, and may actually harm America's future Olympic medal prospects. Tom Farrey is the executive director of Sports & Society Program at the the Aspen Institute and founder of Project Play, which encourages youth sports participation.
