And then the devastating bushfires hit at the beginning of the year and killed an estimated 5,000. Today, koalas are struggling to adapt with much of their habitat destroyed. The Detection Dogs for Conservation project at the University of Sunshine Coast in Australia, uses rescue dogs to track down koalas.
