Guest: Brad Harris, MPA, Teaching Professor, Recreation Management, BYU About one in five Boy Scouts is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In May, the LDS Church announced that it will end its participation in the Boy Scout Varsity teams and Venturing crews, effective January 2018. These programs only serve boys ages 14-18, but many have speculated this is the beginning of the end of the LDS Church’s relationship with the Boy Scouts for all ages. The two organizations have been closely intertwined for more than a century.
