Typhoid was referred to as “the filth disease” in Victorian England and commonly thought to be a disease of the poor. But after the crown prince and the children of typhoid doctors caught it, the rich no longer felt safe. Finding the cause led to a rise in detective work in many fields. Guest: Jacob Steere-Williams, Associate Professor of History at the College of Charleston and author of "The Filth Disease: Typhoid Fever and Practices of Epidemiology in Victorian England"
