In the US, animal-versus-vehicle collisions happen upwards of two million times a year. Bridges or tunnels can help animals cross busy roads. The largest animal crossing in the world is being designed in Southern California to help mountain lions get across a 10-lane freeway in LA. Rob Ament, one of the world’s leading experts on designing these animal crossings, is program manager of road ecology at the Western Transport Institute of Montana State University. He's also a senior conservationist with the nonprofit Center for Large Landscape Conservation.
