Social media has launched us into an unprecedented era of globalization. In seconds, you can access videos, tutorials, news reels, and media from any country in the world. At the same time breaking news reaches headlines in Australia, it is being broadcasted across the United States. The increased exposure to various cultures, languages, and ideals has also brought a heightened awareness of biases, both implicit and explicit, that we all hold. So, what can we do in today’s world to be more culturally competent? How do we use this increased exposure to create the most equitable and culturally aware generation known to man? Education Expert, Ravi Hutheesing, author of PIVOT: Empowering Students Today to Succeed in an Unpredictable Tomorrow, and previous diplomate for the U.S. State Department joins us to discuss what is necessary to raise a generation of culturally competent kids.
