Pandemic lockdowns have coincided with increased illegal logging of rainforests in Brazil, Colombia, and Cambodia. The added tragedy is that cutting down tropical forests actually increases the chances of viruses jumping from animals to humans and causing another pandemic. Colorado State University economist Edward Barbier has been tracking this trend.
