Some of the biggest names in music have done a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR, and they often quip about how it’s the weirdest gig they’ve ever done. The weirdness proved a perfect fit for the whimsical hip-hop, soul, and spoken-word sound of Tank and the Bangas. In 2017, the group from New Orleans shot to fame nationally by winning the Tiny Desk Contest. Lead singer Tarriona "Tank" Ball got her start as a slam poet and spent the pandemic publishing a book of her poetry, putting out a surprisingly upbeat EP with the band. She’ll be at the Park City Song Summit the second week of September, talking about her poetry and performing with Tank and the Bangas.
