Important conversations and encouraging words to help you make every day a great one. Stylist to the Stars (00:00) Amanda Valentine joins Lisa to discuss her job as a stylist for various famous people and groups. Reinventing Yourself (18:21) Henry David Thoreau said “Things do not change; we change.” Reinvention of our lives and our inner selves may not always be easy to assess. It seems like it is life that is constantly changing, but maybe it’s us who have to change to be who we really are. Here to discuss reinvention, what it is, and how we can accept it, is Kacy Faulconer. Cat Communication (50:43) You’ve got to admit that you talk to you pets when you’re alone. In 2012 the American Veterinary Medical Association reported that about 30% of U.S. households have cats and about 36% have dogs. That’s a lot of kibble and litter! Jessica Pierce, Ph.D., is talking with us today about how those pets, especially cats, communicate with us and what they understand. Jessica Pierce is a bioethicist and the author of four books on the sociology of pets. Her most recent book is Unleashing Your Dog: A Field Guide to Giving Your Canine Companion the Best Life Possible. It will be released in February, 2019. ASMR (1:09:49) If you've ever been scrolling on Facebook and you've come across a video of someone mixing paint, carving soap, or doing some other repetitive motion to a quiet soundtrack, you've probably watched an ASMR video. For some people, these repetitive videos utilize a series of triggers to help them experience ASMR, also known as the “brain tingles.” Dr. Craig Richard, a professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences at Shenandoah University and author of the book Brain Tingles: The Secret to Triggering Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response for Improved Sleep, Stress Relief, and Head-to-Toe Euphoria, discusses ASMR. He is the founder of ASMRUniversity.com. The Different Phases of Parenting (1:25:32) Lisa presents her weekly monologue about how life changes and how parenting needs to change to catch up with it.
