Centralia, Pennsylvania, is home to an almost-60-year-old underground fire. Early attempts to contain the blaze failed and the problem grew large enough to threaten the safety of residents. In the early 1980s, Congress financed the relocation of the town. Today, tourists can still see smoke escaping from the depths.
