In the US, men are three and a half times more likely to die by suicide than women. The prevailing theory has been that traditional gender roles are behind this. Meaning, men experience more stress at work, and if they lose their job that could cause them to spiral into depression. So a lot of suicide prevention has been focused on keeping men employed. But new research shows that home life may be just as powerful of an influence on male suicide rates. Silvia Canetto is a professor of psychology at Colorado State University.
