“My body, my choice,” has long been the slogan of abortion rights activists. Now it’s being used by people protesting COVID-19 vaccine requirements. Many of those vaccine protesters are conservatives who oppose abortion rights. Lawyer and historian Lewis Grossman finds that ironic but not surprising. He says the belief in medical freedom—the right to choose or reject medical procedures without government interference—runs deep in America and has always brought together groups that generally don’t agree on much else. Grossman is a professor at American University and author of “Choose Your Medicine: Freedom of Therapeutic Choice in America.”
