The bananas we typically get at the grocery store are in trouble. The South American orchards of Cavendish bananas are under attack by a deadly fungus. This fungus originated in Africa and spread to the Middle East before traveling to the Americas. It kind of sounds like the current COVID-19 pandemic North Carolina State University plant pathologist Jean Ristiano explains how pandemics work in plants and how we deal with them.
