Up to half of the inmates in the US prisons and jails have a disability of some sort. Intellectual and developmental disabilities are especially prevalent. Such prisoners are also at a higher risk of exploitation by fellow inmates and prison officials. Emory University researcher Jennifer Sarrett is trying to untangle the connection between disability and incarceration in America.
