Although federal assistance has the poverty cut off at $13,000 a year if you’re single or about $27,000 a year if you’re a family of four, the nonprofit National Disability Institute would like to see those thresholds changed for people with disabilities. Zachary Morris is a professor of social welfare at Stony Brook University and one of the co-authors on the National Disability Institute’s analysis of federal poverty guidelines.
