Balancing Schedules (0:00:00) On a typical day, you go to about 12 different stores, drop one kid off at dance lessons, pick up another from soccer, clean up spills, vacuum, and maybe do some laundry if you’re lucky. At the end of the day, you’re exhausted, your kids are exhausted, and you begin to wonder if it’s even worth all the trouble. How in the world can you balance your crazy family schedule? Lisa Canning is a parenting, lifestyle and interior design expert who helps moms design their lives around what matters most. As a mother of seven with another nearly here, she has some great suggestions on how to balance a family schedule. International Day of Charity (0:17:11) In 2012, the United Nations declared September 5 to be the International Day of Charity. So we’re celebrating by getting answers to the burning questions you have about finding the right cause to support. Did you know that in 2018 Americans donated more than $427 billionto US charities in 2018? That’s a lot of money. But how do we know all of that money is really going where we think it is? How can we find trustworthy charities to donate to? That’s where companies like GiveWell come in. GiveWell does extensive research to decide which charities will do the most with each dollar donated. Joining us is Ben Bateman, GiveWell’s Head of Growth. Homeschooling (0:34:04) When you think back on your education, what drove your desire to learn? Was it natural curiosity and passion, or the fear of getting bad grades? There’s a growing group of parents choosing to homeschool their kids in order to bring out the “natural learner” in all children by letting them learn at their own pace. Ainsley Arment is one of these parents, and she’s the author of "Call of the Wild and Free," where she shares about her decision to homeschool her kids, what homeschooling is really like, and how we can raise our kids wild and free. She joins us on the show to tell us more. Back to School Bullying (0:50:22) For some children, this time of year is something to dread, and not just because it means the end of long, fun filled summer days. Back to school for some can also mean going back to the bullies. So how you stand up to a bully without getting nasty yourself? Here to talk us through it is Heather Hansen, podcast host and author of "The Elegant Warrior: How to Win Life’s Trials Without Losing Yourself." Yard Sales (1:05:26) This time of year you may start seeing an influx of neon signs posted around your neighborhood. It's yard sale season. You might just roll your eyes and pass by your neighbor's cheap junk, but are yard sales just a way of spring cleaning, or could there be some real hidden gems? We're joined by Reyne Hirsch, a media personality known for her 13 seasons on the PBS series "Antique Roadshow." Reyne will help us understand why we might not want to overlook these neighborhood garage sales this season. Mini Book Club: Rainy Days (1:29:02) Rachel Wadham, of BYU Radio's Worlds Awaiting, talks about the best books to read on a rainy day. Stay at Home Wives (1:35:05) The role of a stay-at-home-wife is a unique one filled with many possibilities... but at times it can feel lonely. People may assume women who stay at home do so for their children, but what about the women who don’t have kids and don’t want to get tied to a full-time career? Some days they may find themselves with extra time on their hands. So, what can stay-at-home-wives do when they feel like they’re out of ideas? Blogger and stay-at-home-wife Jessica Zambie is with us to give some insight into her daily life and some ideas for how other stay-at-home-wives can find their own purpose.
