Andrea Boccelli–one of the world’s most famous tenors–is also blind. And though you wouldn’t know it to hear him, visual impairment is a disadvantage in classical singing. Vocal coach Cheri Montgomery, who is also a senior lecturer at Vanderbilt University, has developed a tool to help blind singers quickly learn the quirks of pronunciation and diction that come with singing opera and other classical music.
