At Ease USA (0:00:00) Although society in general is starting to be more comfortable with the idea of getting help for mental illness, many veterans still struggle to admit that they need help. Being a part of the military, you see and experience a lot of traumatic things, but did you know that less than 35% of veterans with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries will pursue treatment from the VA? That’s how strong the stigma around mental illness is within the military! One organization, called At Ease USA,is working to provide veterans with a safe place to come in and receive help. Joining us is their founder, Scott Anderson. Teen Breakups (0:16:43) As soon as a teenager begins their first relationship, parents start worrying about whether this new boyfriend or girlfriend would ever dare to hurt their child. At the same time... parents also understand that it’s more likely than not that the relationship will end in their child’s first breakup, and breakups can be dramatic for the whole family. So how can parents help their child when their first relationship ends? Amy Morin, a psychotherapist, joins us to advise us parents on how to support our teens as they navigate their first heartbreak. Starting Your Week (0:34:43) Carrie Ann Rhodes talks with Lisa and Richie about finding ways to energize your Mondays in order to start your week off right. Growing Confidence (0:50:35) According to reports, girls’ confidence and self-esteem peaks around age 9, and falls from there. We see it all the time, girls suddenly feel self-conscious of their appearance as their bodies change, they see women in the media and feel they need to wear makeup to get that air-brushed look, they hear gossip at sleep-overs and feel they need to be the best at everything to stand out from the crowd and avoid being picked on. What can we do to help foster confidence in girls as they go through the difficult stages of middle school and high school? Here to talk us through it is Illana Raia: lawyer, lecturer, and CEO and Founder of Etre Girls, a mentorship platform for young girls. Show Offs Season 2 (1:05:11) You might be one of those people with hours of work and errands–with all the stress in your life, have you taken any time to laugh? They say that laughing is the best medicine, and we just might have something to help you. Jake Van Wagoner is a leading cast member of BYU TV’s Show Offs, an improv comedy show that has people rolling on the floor in laughter. The second season is airing this coming Monday, September 30th and we’ve invited Jake talk to us about all the funny moments, backstage secrets, and what we can expect from this exciting premiere! Graying (1:21:12) Graying hair is a natural part of life. It can happen earlier for some and later for others. But of course, most of us can't help but wonder: Why do we go gray, and what, if anything, do we do about it? Michelle Lindsay is a hair stylist, color expert, and an instructor for L’oreal Professionnel, and she’s here to help us better understand gray hair.
