At the Shrine of St. Wagner (2:04) Originally produced for BYUradio's Classical 89, acclaimed actor Ron Fredrickson reads the essay "Mark Twain at Bayreuth", often retitled "At the Shrine of St. Wagner." In his own trademark style marked with wit and grit, Twain uses humor to express his appreciation for the operatic arts. Twain and his family were enthusiastic fans of the arts, and his own daughter, Clara Clemens was a talented contralto singer who was married to acclaimed Russian composer Ossip Gabrilowitsch. We think you will enjoy this delightful perspective on the operatic tradition.  Interview with Jamie Erekson (25:40) Writer and composer Jamie Erekson joins Sam Payne in the studio to discuss his latest production, "The Lost Children of Hamelin", which had its premiere at Brigham Young University. The contemporary opera draws on influences from well-known stories such as the Pied Piper of Hamelin, Hansel & Gretel, and The Little Match Girl. In this interview, Sam and Jamie explore the history and conventions of operatic storytelling. "The Lost Children of Hamelin" will performed this spring at Brigham Young University directed by Dr. Lawrence Vincent. Find tickets here.
