The new national security law that the Chinese Communist government implemented in July, which threatened life in prison for protestors and criticizers of the Chinese government, had sweeping effects on the Hong Kong protests. Hong Kong legal expert Alvin Y.H. Cheung voiced his concerns about this new law.
