Making Ink (0:00:00) April showers have brought mayflowers--and may flowers bring the potential for making artist quality inks! Even if you're confined to your own backyard, hundreds of colors are waiting to be bottled. Urban forager Jason Logan of The Toronto Ink Company is here to discuss the process of finding and foraging flowers and plants and using them to create artist quality inks and what you can do with those inks! Managing Pain and Conflict Together (0:18:13) Sometimes an intense conflict can cause us pain, and it’s difficult to resolve both issues when the solution to each are at odds with each other. For example, imagine your child has just left for college and is having a hard time making friends. You want to make friends for them, but you  know  they  need  to  figure  it  out  on  their  own. You’re conflicted about what to do, and you’re also in pain because as a parent your child’s happiness is everything. In situations like this we are trying to handle conflict and pain simultaneously. So  how  do  we  find  a  solution  to  both  ease  our  pain  and  end  the  conflict? To give us some advice, we’ve invited Emily Taylor, certified mediator, conflict specialist, and communications trainer. What Should My Kids Listen To? (0:38:06) Have you ever been driven up the wall by children’s music in a T.V. show or on the internet? Sometimes it can be so repetitive or annoying, and maybe you’ve wondered how it could possibly be good for kids. Well, there’s actually a chance it isn’t good for them, and you may be surprised to know that some of the songs you enjoy in your personal music collection might be better for your kids than some of the so-called “children’s music.” Music can have a pretty big impact on our children, so it’s a good idea to be informed when making choices regarding the songs you play for your kids. Today we are joined by Dr. Eric Rasmussen, chair of the Peabody Preparatory’s Early Childhood Music department. Who has some tips for how we can provide our children with a better musical experience. Eric earned his PhD in music education, and in addition to curating and composing music for children and babies, he researches music aptitude. Improving Memory (0:52:48) If anyone’s ever told you, you’d forget your head if it wasn’t attached to your neck—you’re not alone. I feel like I am always forgetting things. I’ll set something down and then two minutes later I’ll have no idea where it went. While it might seem like your memory is a lost cause—memory is actually something you can train and improve. Here to show us how, is memory expert Ron White. Men and Anxiety (1:10:13) More women than men report symptoms of anxiety and depression. The American Psychological Association states that men are far more likely to hide their anxiety or depression than women are. What happens when men don’t share what they’re going through or ask for help? David L. Winters has overcome a personal bout with anxiety and is now on a mission to help other men to overcome their anxiety as well. We thought this was such an important topic that isn’t discussed enough, so we’ve invited David onto the show to discuss it with us. Keeping Your Car Nice (1:27:28) Buying a car is probably one of the most expensive purchases you’ll ever make. Which means it’s important to take care of it so that your money doesn’t go to waste after a few short years. But, there are so many little things to remember when it comes to keeping your car looking as new as it was when you bought it. You have to wash it, wax it, vacuum it, dust it, get the oil changed, and the list goes on. But how often do we have to do all of this and what are some best practices for maintaining our cars? Joining us to share her expert advice for keeping the interior and exterior of our cars looking nice is the executive editor of U.S News Best Cars, Jamie Deaton. Show More...
