What’s in a name? Is it easier to remember a piece when it’s called “Pigtown Fling” or “Scolding Wife?” (We think so!) Steven Kapp Perry chats with Liz Davis Maxfield about Irish tune names and her experiences while living in Ireland. Liz Davis Maxfield is the first cello player to ever study traditional Irish music at the University of Limerick. The cello is not a traditional Irish folk instrument but she felt that it could be and spent a year on a Fullbright Fellowship learning how to adapt Irish fiddle styles to the cello.
