Big Loss for VidAngel in Initial Phase of Court Battle Guest: Peter Midgley, Director of the BYU Copyright Licensing Office A judge has ordered VidAngel to stop streaming films from several major Hollywood studios while a lawsuit between the site and the studios plays out. VidAngel has yet to actually stop streaming the movies and is hoping to get the temporary injunction overturned, but the judge’s ruling does not bode well for VidAngel.  China’s Role in Genetic Enhancement Guest: Owen Schaefer, DPhil, Research Fellow in Biomedical Ethics, National University of Singapore The word “eugenics” carries unsettling connotations of the Nazi quest for a master race and American laws in the early twentieth century that allowed for forced sterilization of people with disabilities and prohibited interracial marriage. It’s a period of Western history that we’d like to forget. But advances in genetic science today—and in particular the ability to edit genes —have forced a new conversation about the ethics of using technology to, say, change the skin color of a fetus or eliminate the presence of a certain disease-causing genetic defect.  Climate Change and National Security Guest: David Titley, PhD, American Meteorological Society Fellow, Professor at Pennsylvania State University President-elect Donald Trump has said that climate change is a hoax and has called for the US to withdraw from the Paris Climate agreement.  What the President-elect may soon discover, as he digs into the many complexities of leading the country, is the way in which rising sea levels, intensifying natural disasters and wide temperature fluctuations go beyond questions of energy policy – they are also a threat to America’s national security. The US Navy even has a Task Force on Climate Change. Apple Seed Guest: Sam Payne, Host of BYUradio’s “The Apple Seed” Sam Payne joins us in the studio to share tales of tellers and stories. AmazonGo and Consumer Habits Guest: Brent Franson, CEO of Euclid Analytics Now that Amazon has gotten us all hooked on the online two-day delivery shopping experience, it’s going old-school with a small bricks-and-mortar store in Seattle. But there’s a technical twist, of course. AmazonGo is a convenience store stocked with perishable items. You load an app on your phone and then you walk into the store, pick up what you want and walk out. No waiting in lines, no checkout counters, no swiping a credit card. Just grab and go, and the total is charged to your Amazon account. Tenebrae's World-Famous Brand of Singing Guest: Nigel Short, award-winning conductor of Tenebrae and a former member of the King’s Singers  Passion and precision underpin the world-famous sound of the London-based choral group Tenebrae. They’re known for performing in cathedrals and churches – often acapella, surrounded by candles. The group also frequently tutors and sings with amateur choirs. They visited BYU recently and Nigel Short sat for an interview with Top of Mind.
