New York Fashion Week is known for glitz and glam—but this year, it also included a runway show featuring survivors of sexual assault. It’s a strange combination until you hear Amanda Nguyen’s story. She’s a rape survivor and founder of the civil rights nonprofit Rise, which managed to get unanimous approval for the Survivor’s Bill of Rights Act in Congress back in 2016 and has since seen 21 states adopt similar legislation.
