Untold Story of Resistance During Nazi Occupation of the Channel Islands
Top of Mind with Julie Rose • Season 1, Episode 1741, Segment 5Nov 29, 2021 • 20m
The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles occupied by Nazi Germany during World War II. They sit in the English Channel off the coast of France –the largest are Jersey and Guernsey. The Nazi occupation of those islands lasted five years, most of the war. Jenny Lecoat was born in Jersey not long after the war ended and grew up hearing stories of her family’s resistance efforts during the occupation. Now Lecoat has turned the true stories of two women who were part of that resistance into her first novel. It’s called, “The Girl from the Channel Islands.”
