Violence Against Asian Americans

The US Department of Justice said last week that preventing and prosecuting hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders is a top priority. A nonprofit group called Stop AAPI Hate has received more than 2,800 reports of verbal and physical abuse as of December, and some of the victims have died. California lawmakers have now given $1.4 million to groups including Stop AAPI Hate and the Asian American Studies Center at UCLA, where Karen Umemoto is the director.
