In the '60s, America's first Freedom Rider wasn’t Rosa Parks—it was 15-year-old Claudette Colvin, who refused to give up her seat nine months prior to Parks’ famous refusal. Teens and students drove some of the hallmark events we remember from the civil rights movement—including boycotts and sit-ins. And it was youth who carried daily the heavy burden of integrating public schools. Historian V. P. Franklin was a young activist himself and he shares his story. Guest: V. P. Franklin, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History and Education at the University of California, Riverside; editor of "The Journal of African American History" from 2002 to 2018; author of "The Young Crusaders: The Untold Story of the Children and Teenagers Who Galvanized the Civil Rights Movement"
