A monument to Emmett Till, the 14-year-old Black boy who was brutally murdered in 1955, was just unveiled in Washington, D.C. Till's death helped to mobilize the Civil Rights movement. Exhibits memorializing him have been defaced, stolen, and riddled with bullets. Many sites that are historic to the Civil Rights movement aren’t marked or curated well for visitors. This is why journalist Deborah Douglas wrote the book “U.S. Civil Rights Trail: A Traveler’s Guide to the People, Places, and Events That Made the Movement.” (Originally aired January 27th, 2021)
