The last symphony Beethoven completed before his death was his 9th. It concludes with the famous Ode to Joy as performed here by the London Symphony Orchestra. When Beethoven died he was working on the beginning of his 10th Symphony. There’ve been numerous attempts to finish it, with limited success. Now, with the help of artificial intelligence, a group of musicologists and computer scientists have made a new attempt. Mark Gotham is a professor of music theory at T.U. Dortmund University in Germany and he worked on the project. (Segment produced by James Hoopes)
