Taiwan is an island about 100 miles off the coast of China. It’s democratically run and considers itself an independent nation. But China sees Taiwan as its territory and recently made a big show of its ability to take Taiwan by military force. No shots have been fired yet, but there’s growing concern that China might attack Taiwan – and draw the US into a war. A Musical Intervention to Heal
There’s a recording studio in New Haven, Connecticut where anyone can step in and make some music. It’s all free, so the place is open to those living on the street or those with a mental illness or serious addiction. It’s called Musical Intervention, and founder Adam Christoferson firmly believes that giving people space to be creative can change their lives and help their brains. And it’s not just a nice idea. An ongoing study out of Yale University and Musical Intervention shows that creating music does help people with psychotic illnesses. (Segment produced by James Hoopes)

Thomas Dee is one of the researchers on this study – he’s a professor of education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. (Segment produced by Sam Faulconer)

A Walk Toward Peace and Understanding in the Middle East
If you’re on the hunt for a long-distance walking trek, you might consider the Appalachian Trail or the Camino de Santiago through France and Spain. Traveling on foot from Turkey through Syria, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel seems ill-advised at the moment. But there is a network of paths that follow that route and thousands of people walk portions of it each year. It’s called the Abraham Path, and it was conceived by a group of peace negotiation experts at Harvard, including Joshua Weiss. (Segment produced by Sydney Jezik)
