Age is just a number, as they say. And we all know people who seem much younger—or older—than what the calendar says. But Nazish Sayed, a professor of surgery at the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, thinks a more useful way to gauge age is to measure the age-related inflammation in a person’s body. Those inflammatory cells can help predict how likely you are to develop cancer, heart disease, and degenerative disorders that become more common as you get older.
