Are you tired of covering yourself in smelly bug repellent to avoid those pesky mosquitos? There’s a new invention for that: mosquito-proof clothing. Biomedical engineer Marian McCord specializes in textiles and helped develop this fabric while at North Carolina State University. She’s now the Senior Vice Provost for research, economic engagement, and outreach at the University of New Hampshire. (Segment Produced by Sam Faulconer) (Photo: Matthew Bertone, NCSU)
Afghanistan
Why was the US withdrawal from Afghanistan so chaotic? US officials have said that the Taliban took control of the country much faster than they expected, and the Biden Administration had promised to remove all US troops from the country by the end of August. So there was a rush, but why did all those people crushing the gates of the Kabul airport need to leave before then? Is Afghanistan now just completely closed off to anyone trying to come in or out? Federal Heat Protection
As temperatures rise, so do the number of workers dying from heat exposure. Recent reports point to a lack of federal heat safety rules. Rather, the decision is left up to companies who know they’ll face minimal punishment if one of their workers dies of exposure. Jordan Barab is a workplace safety advocate. He formerly served in the leadership of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration under President Obama. (Segment produced by Olivia Young)

Online Harassment
Twitter began testing a new feature meant to protect people from the flood of harassment that can come when the Internet decides someone deserves to be cancelled. “Safety Mode” screens harassing messages so the target of the abuse doesn’t have to see them. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Professor of Communication Alice Marwick has developed a theory that explains why these call out campaigns happen so often online and why otherwise polite people are so quick to pile on. Paying for College
You can negotiate the price of a car or a house, but what about college tuition? It's possible. In just one generation, the whole system of university tuition and financial aid has changed dramatically, says New York Times consumer finance columnist Ron Lieber. His new book is “The Price You Pay for College: An Entirely New Roadmap for the Biggest Financial Decision Your Family Will Ever Make.”
