Five years ago this week, British citizens voted to leave the EU. This ended the free movement for citizens that came with being a part of the EU—the ability to cross EU nations’ borders without worrying about immigration. Officially, that law kicked in a year ago. Non-British EU citizens currently living in the UK now have to apply for “settled status” by June 30th, nine days from now.
