Cybersecurity
Members of Congress are pressing President Biden to deliver a tough message on cybersecurity to Russian President Putin when the two leaders meet this week. Gangs of hackers operating out of Russia were behind two high-profile and costly ransomware attacks involving Colonial Pipeline and JBS Meat. Brigham Young University professor of international law and cybersecurity expert Eric Jensen talks about the growing problem of ransomware attacks and if the federal government can do anything about it. Woebot
Would you be comfortable talking with a digital assistant about your problems? There’s an app called Woebot you can text back and forth about how you’re feeling. The company says its Woebot users feel like they establish a sort of bond with the app, approximating something like a relationship with a human therapist. We ask Woebot founder and psychologist Alison Darcy if they are trying to replace real-life psychologists.

Cascatelli
After three years of research and development, the world’s got a new pasta shape: cascatelli. It sold out in just two hours after its launch in March. But why would Sporkful podcast host Dan Pashman invent a new pasta? Let's just say it had a lot to do with the podcast and trying to find the perfect pasta.

The Other Black Girl
An awkward encounter with another Black woman in the ladies’ room at work sparked the idea for Zakiya Dalila Harris’s bestselling new novel. "The Other Black Girl," tells the story of a young editorial assistant who is the only Black employee at a major publishing house in New York. Harris was in a similar position when she was inspired to write the book.

Lawn Culture
Many American homeowners—and HOAs and city governments—are so attached to the idea of a trim, green lawn as a sign of responsible homeownership that they’re willing to dump billions of gallons of water and chemicals on their grass every day. Joan Nassauer, professor of landscape architecture at the University of Michigan, discusses how we can wean ourselves off our lawn addiction.
