Many parents aren’t aware that statistically, most teens have tried either drugs or alcohol by the time they graduate high school. Although not all teens become addicted, it’s still a serious issue. So, why do teens experiment with drugs? What can parents do to prevent this? Here to educate us is Bradley Aaron Zicherman, MD, pediatric psychiatrist, in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Stanford Children’s Health.

Carcolepsy: Falling Asleep on the Road
Have you ever been driving in the middle of the day, and all of the sudden you feel yourself drifting to sleep? You just can't help yourself and you start worrying that you won't be able to keep yourself awake, (and we all know you won't pull over because you're too "macho" for that). Certainly, for some it's just impossible for them to fall asleep in a car or any other moving vehicle, but others (when they're not the ones driving) will pass out like a babe and wake up once they've reached their destination. So, what is the cause behind this almost uncontrollable need to fall asleep on the road? And how can we hold it off to make sure we arrive at our destination safely? We talk with Professor Sarah Blunden, academic researcher, clinical psychologist, and head of pediatric sleep research at Appleton Institute, Central Queensland University to learn more about why we fall asleep on the road and what we can do about it.

How to Stop the Lies
It can become easy to live a life filled with lies, even if they’re small. We lie to avoid bad consequences and hurting others, but most of all, to avoid being vulnerable. Honesty can be especially difficult when we have things in our life we aren’t proud of. We can keep secrets about ourselves from people for so long we can start to believe what we’re telling too. But what are the benefits to doing so? And more importantly, what are the consequences? When you’re wrapped up in so many lies, you start to lose your freedom to be and say who you want to because you can’t even keep track of what you’ve said and to whom. So how can we release the weight of lies off of our chests and find the inner peace again? Today we discuss lying and honesty with Vanessa Coppola, a life coach at the Handel Group. She focuses on telling the truth to feel freedom and peace.

Embracing Your Critical Voice
You have maybe experienced the voice inside your head that tells you that you aren’t good enough, or you just aren’t measuring up, or "I'm an idiot, I'll never learn." Our critical voices use these words to tear us down. However, sometimes they can be useful. So how can we embrace them and still practice self-love? Lisa and Richie speak with Connie Sobczak, co-founder and executive director of The Body Positive.
